LAFKA

THE CHARMING LITTLE LAFKA WITH THE RED TILED ROOFS

CAN BE FOUND ON A DETOUR FROM THE MAIN ROAD AS YOU HEAD FROM LAKE STYMPHALIA TO THE VILLAGE OF KASTANIA

Nestled at an elevation of 680 meters, the charming little Lafka graces the landscape with its red-tiled roofs, beautifully interrupting the lush green symphony that surrounds it. Situated southwest of Lake Stymphalia and merely 43 km from Kiato, this idyllic village is home to approximately 400 residents. Characteristic is the small stream that meanders through the heart of Lafka, adorned with numerous bridges constructed by the inhabitants.

The gem of the village, however, is the church of Agios Athanasios, built in 1888-89 atop the foundations of an older church. The church's altarpiece, a work of Lycurgus, is exceptional, as are the icons crafted by the monks of Mount Athos.

A very interesting part of the village is also the Athanasoulis manor house.

Finally, a Folklore Museum has been operating in Lafka since 1993 with a wealth of exhibits, including old household utensils and agricultural tools.
